CMDC’s Shrewsbury concert of 4th November 2023 was an occasion for Birthdays celebrating the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the Samaritans; the inaugural concert on The Choir’s first ever tour to the USA and of course the imminent Armistice Day. The latter being marked by a section of the programme with a poem ‘You Bought Me Time’ read by our Compere Philip Howells (on his birthday), performances of ‘We Rise Again’ featuring the beautiful voice of our MD Rhiannon and the stirring ‘World In Union’.
The Choir, somewhat reduced in numbers resulting largely from illness, storm and travel delays nevertheless produced an evening of power, passion and precision well up to its normal high standard. The event was enhanced by showcasing the huge talents of two further members of our music team, Sian Davies and Elaine Robins, who entertained us all with witty and exhilarating piano duets.
Our guest artiste Michael Carding, a great favourite of choir and audience alike, has joined us on each of our previous visits to the splendid Theatre Severn.
The event was supported by a large appreciative audience in aid of Shrewsbury Samaritans and their vital work.
