WHO’D HAVE THOUGHT IT?

The close of the first half of our latest of 37 concerts in the splendour of St. David’s Cathedral was met with a spontaneous and enthusiastic standing ovation. A welcome but surprising first for all of us.
 
The end of the interval was marked with a presentation by Gwynlais Phillips (Choir Chairman), of a cheque for £15,000 to Alzheimers Society Cymru, as a result of our recent Ten Bandstands Challenge. The original target for this was £5000. A remarkable achievement from a day of music, teamwork and huge effort.
 
The standing ovation was repeated again at the conclusion of what proved to be a thrilling and uplifting occasion for all concerned.
 
The all but capacity audience were welcomed to the Cathedral by our chaplain Bishop Dorrien, and a message from our patron His Majesty King Charles read by compere Phil Howells.
 
The ensuing event under the expert hands of D.Huw Rees, conducting his first official concert as our new M.D., was proof positive of the huge effort of all involved to bring such a quality offering to the audience. Our singing was supported by the superb musicianship of Sian Davies (piano) and Meirion Wynn Jones (organ)
 
We were particularly pleased to be joined by a contingent of choristers from Morriston Male Choir as Associate Members of C.M.D.C. for this prestigious occasion.
 
Further proof of the strength of music in Wales was provided by the superb Rhydian Jenkins (Tenor), and the hugely accomplished ladies of Parti Llwchwr.
 
I believe there was something extra special about this fabulous evening which will live long in our memories, I know it will in mine.
