TEN BANDSTANDS CHALLENGE – £14,000 RAISED FOR ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY CYMRU
It was unique, it was ambitious, it was innovative and it was hugely successful.
10 BANDSTANDS, 1 DAY, ACROSS THE BREADTH OF SOUTH WALES
On 31 May 2026, the choir created a “red wave of singing” across the breadth of South Wales.
The Ten Bandstands Challenge started at The Rath Bandstand Milford Haven at 7.00am on Sunday 31st May 2026. The weather was kind, not raining, not too hot, a light breeze. The seagulls were happy.
Our Welsh Ladies and the 10 BANDSTANDS choristers strolled up from the Lord Nelson Hotel to the bandstand, delighted to see the EAGLE SIGNS graphiced MIDWAY MOTORS coach with more choristers, who had had an even earlier start from the Midway Motors depot in Crymych, delivered safely to the start, and joined by the other members of the team who had early morning driven to the start, and most important of all, Elaine Robins, our much cherished MD.
Then the day flew by – travelling west to east via iconic locations including Tenby’s Castle Hill Bandstand and Llandeilo’s Penlan Park, before reaching Belle Vue Park in Newport and concluding just before 8:00pm in Cardiff’s Victoria Park.
This ambitious musical journey served to highlight the energy, heritage and community spirit that define Welsh choral culture.
SUPPORTING ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY CYMRU
Support for charities and good causes is a central tenet of the male voice choir tradition. This charity event in aid of Alzheimer’s Society Cymru, started with an initial target of raising £5,000 – and the determination to exceed it.
It did just that – in abundance. With Gift Aid added, the total raised in now over £14,000
