No not the choir, but the audience on Saturday March 2nd in St Nicolas Church Newbury, in the words of Richard Benyon MP.
The sold out concert, organised by Rotary Club Newbury in aid of a variety of local charities, proved to be hugely successful in every respect. The Choir together with Helen Page (Violin) and Rhodri Prys Jones (Tenor), produced a feast of music of a very high standard. All this rewarded with a standing ovation and the warm words of the local MP.
The first concert of this St David’s weekend was also sold out and took place on Friday the 1st in Avenue St Andrew’s Church, Southampton, in aid of The Teenage Cancer Trust. Yet another superb performance by The Choir and featuring soloists Annie Tatnall (Soprano) with our own Sian Gwawr Davies (Piano), and John Lloyd (Monologue).
The evening was crowned by a warm and witty vote of thanks by the legendary former manager of Southampton FC Lawrie McMenemy. The photo above shows members of the choir presenting a cheque for £2,100 to the Southern representative of the Teenage Cancer Trust, Amanda Hetherington.
Both concerts were led by our inspirational Musical Director Elaine Robins and supported by Sian, our superb accompanist. Barri Hurford was the compere and the concerts were arranged by Jeff James (Concert Organiser-England)
