The Royal British Legion Wales Festival of Remembrance 2019 took place in St David’s Hall Cardiff on the 2nd November.
The Choir were proud to take part in this event as the sole representative of the Male Voice Choir tradition. The highlight for us was to commemorate the 140th Anniversary of The Battle of Rorke’s Drift, as immortalised in the film ‘Zulu’, with a performance of ‘The March of the Men of Harlech’, with the superb Regimental Band of the Royal Welsh under the baton of Major Dennis Burton MBE.
We were pleased to make two further contributions to the evening with performances of Eric Jones arrangement of ‘Y Tangnefeddwyr’ and ‘There is no Death ‘ arranged by Bryan Davies, led by our own music team of Elaine Robins and Sian Davies, and both well received by the large audience.
The other choir in attendance were the Binnendiese Choir, a Dutch Community Choir celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Liberation of s’Hertogenbosch by Welsh soldiers. We were pleased to join them in the singing of the Dutch National Hymn ‘Wilhelmus’.
The event concluded with a moving and impressive Service of Remembrance.
